Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.(Ephesians 1:3, NIV)
I once heard the funny story of a man who purchased a ticket to travel abroad by sea for the very first time in his life. He boarded the ship with some biscuits and water that he planned to feed himself with all through the long journey. As the days went by, his supplies of biscuits and water finished, and he had to endure the rest of the journey in serious hunger. He however noticed that many of the other passengers would go to the deck of the ship to eat from the verse array of food laid out buffet style. He simply concluded that the food was not for people like him, but for those who had paid extra money for feeding. When they finally got to their destination, and after having endured days of severe hunger, he was faced with the painful reality that the ticket he had bought for the journey entitled him to every single meal and benefit on the ship! He had suffered days of unnecessary hunger and stress simply because he was ignorant!
The story of this fictitious man describes the attitude of many believers. The Bible (God’s Holy Word) is filled with diverse promises about the abundant blessings of God for every true child of His. God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing we could ever imagine. Blessings that money, wealth, position and fame cannot buy, blessings that cannot be quantified or measured physically, but that when received ushers in tremendous physical and material blessings into a person’s life. The good news also, is that these blessings are not determined or affected by the economies or limitations of this world. They are spiritual in nature and are located in the heavenly places far above the wroth and moth of this sinful world. Blessings such as forgiveness of sins, the fact that we are chosen, accepted and adopted by God, and we can be partakers of God’s abundant grace (Ephesians1:4-8).
The sad truth however, is that many believers are ignorant of what is theirs. Many of us are like the man in the story above. We have been saved and have had the born again experience, but that is where we stop. No wonder the Lord said in Hosea 4:6- ‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge’. Our friend in the story above, would have starved to death, not because of any ‘evil or satanic arrow’ (as we like to call them), but out of sheer ignorance. He was at a loss as to the resources that were lawfully his.
How then, do we as believers connect to the resources of heaven that are rightfully ours?
It begins with having a relationship with the God of heaven- the owner of the heavenly storehouse . Before you can partake of the heavenly resources, you need to make yourself known in the courts of heaven. This was what Jesus meant, when He said…’Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God….unless one is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God’ (John3:3,5). Have you repented of your sins, have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour? This, is the first step, and cannot be avoided, so long you want the fullness of what God has planned for you
The next step is to find out about what is rightfully yours. This you do by consulting God’s manual for our lives- the Bible. The Bible is the undiluted and infallible Word of God, filled with so much tremendous information that will transform our lives, that will give us the way to live victoriously in this world, and that will prepare us for eternity. The Word of God has answers for any challenge we might ever face in life, it gives us directions on how to navigate ourselves through life in ways that will glorify God. It is also filled with precious promises from God to us that will encourage, inspire and give us hope. However, the only way to discover these blessings and promises is to open its pages and find out!
As you discover the wonders in God’s Word, you embrace them by faith and ensure you meet all the conditions, because the promises of God are conditional.“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God…’ (Duetoronomy 28:1-2). God will never do anything outside the conditions laid down in His Word. Are you living in sin, yet you desire to tap into heaven’s resources? Remember, God’s promises are conditional- if you obey Him, He will respond to you and open the storehouse of heaven’s resources upon your life.
The next step is to come into God’s presence in the place of prayer to ask for what He has promised. It is God’s desire to joyfully give His children all the He has in store for them. The truth is, if God could give up His only begotten Son Jesus to die for us, what else will He not give us? The Lord Jesus Christ Himself confirmed this when He said in Matthew 7:7-11…
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
Therefore, be bold to declare God’s promises back to Him in the place of prayers, and most importantly, ask in faith, believing that you have already received what He has promised.
Having done all, the next thing is to take the step of faith and make a move in anticipation of the desired result. What comes to mind is the story of the woman with the issue of blood in Matthew9:20-22 . She left her home with a terrible medical condition that had plagued her for 12 years. She had prayed, her faith was strong, and she had a clear picture of what she expected to receive from God. However, she did not stay at home whining and hoping that something would happen, she took that step of faith. She left her home where she had been confined in shame and pain, and she headed for where her answer was. As she left home, she left with an expectation, ‘that if only I could just touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, i would be made whole’. Of course, the moment she had access to the hem of Jesus’ garment and touched it, power flowed out of The Lord Christ, to heal her! The touch of expectant faith always releases Heaven’s resources into our lives.
So dear daughter of Zion, it is time to stop moaning and complaining. The set time has come for you to rise and tap into the abundant resources of heaven that are fully yours. Jesus has already paid the price. Halleluyah! Find out what is rightfully yours, ensure you meet all the conditions, be expectant as you pray by faith and of course, take that step of faith! As you do this, heaven will surely respond to you in measures far beyond your expectation in Jesus name.
God bless you!
